Open Coastal Dynamics Education
Coastal Dynamics Open Textbook
The Coastal Textbook is authored by Judith Bosboom, senior lecturer Coastal Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, and Marcel Stive, Emeritus Professor of Coastal Engineering. It was originally developed as lecture notes to support and supplement a 6EC Delft University of Technology first year Master course on Coastal Dynamics (for more background see https://doi.org/10.5074/blog.20210423). The textbook focuses on the interrelation between physical wave, flow and sediment transport phenomena and the resulting morphodynamics of a wide variety of coastal systems. Our list of acknowledgements is long and can be found in the textbook!
Coastal Dynamics Open Codebook
The Coastal Codebook consists of a series of Jupyter notebooks, supplementing the Coastal Textbook. The interactive exercises of the Coastal Codebook help students interact with and reflect on the textbook material. The Coastal Codebook project was initiated by Judith Bosboom, José Álvarez Antolínez and Floris Calkoen. Funding was provided by the TU Delft Open Stimulation Fund. Over the years many TU Delft educators and teaching assistants (MSc and PhD students) have contributed to the development of these notebooks: Mario van den Berg (PhD student), Judith Bosboom (senior lecturer), Kevin de Bruijn (MSc student and later PhD student), Floris Calkoen (Phd student), Charlie Ciaś (MSc student), Jakob Christiaanse (Phd student), Daniel Guerra Medina (MSc student), Chris Hoogervorst (MSc student), Lisa Kleinveld (MSc student), Stuart Pearson (assistant professor), Mia Pupić Vurilj (PhD student) and Valentijn Sessink (external open source expert).
Coastal Dynamics Open Quizbook
The Coastal Quizbook consists of Python-based weekly quizzes per chapter of the textbook. The content is based on previous Möbius quizzes developed for use in the TU Delft Coastal Dynamics course. The Coastal Quizbook project was co-funded by the TU Delft Open Stimulation Fund and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. The project team consisted of 173Stuart Pearson (assistant professor and project co-lead), Judith Bosboom (senior lecturer and project co-lead) and MSc students Charlie Ciaś, Francisco Duque de Morais Amaro and Vilohit Kaza. The teaching assistants that contributed to the Möbius quizzes are Mario van den Berg (MSc student), Matthijs Buijs (MSc student), Anatoly Ilin (MSc student), João Mil-Homens (PhD student) and Lodewijk de Vet (PhD student).
